...WHEN YOU SEEK COUNSELING

Counseling should be comfortable and inviting.  It is our goal to make you feel seen, heard and understood.  We accomplish this by listening with compassion, empathizing with your position and fostering an atmosphere for sharing.

After you have scheduled your appointment, you are ready for your session!  Your very first session will be what's called an intake.  In this session, our practitioner will spend time getting to know you and your desires for change.  You will have the opportunity to ask questions and get to know your practitioner as well.  You will also complete the necessary treatment paperwork.  This includes a consent to services form, and a a copy of our privacy policy.

Counseling will help you set goals for yourself and help you with staying accountable to those goals.  Your counselor should never set goals for you, because you are the one who will be actively working on them.

If this is your first time seeing a counselor, you may be worried about talking with someone you do not know very well and sharing some of the most vulnerable details with that person.  The good news is: your counselor is impartial because she/he does not know your history; therefore, you are free to share as much or as little as you'd like!

A mental health professional can help with a variety of concerns you might be having.  Your counselor is educated and trained to come alongside you to help and support you to a place of optimal mental health.
